MATSUDA MAN WITH BIRDS
This work was originally inspired by a trip to Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy. I am wrapped in a cocoon of soft cotton and silk by Mitsuhiro Matsuda. In a way, this is a paradigm of my life as a multi-cultural person who is constantly crossing cultures and identities. Being multiplex, I have survived and thrived through processes of learning. I realized recently that being a gay Asian American Christian allows me to choose between both the best and the worst of my identity.
Many of us cross cultural and identity boundaries. May we include these experiences of learning to be places of revelation where God is present and luminous and to remember that the world we create for ourselves is only one world among many other worlds.
